Quantity words depend on whether you can count the noun.

Countable
many, few, a few, fewer, a number of. too many students · a few friends
Uncountable
much, little, a little, less, an amount of. too much time · a little water
Both
a lot of, lots of, some, any, plenty of. a lot of students · a lot of time
