YabLab is the web application, browser extension, and desktop application we refer to together as the “Service”. It is built and operated by Yevhenii Zapov, an individual entrepreneur registered in Georgia (identification number 306443202) — “we” and “us” in this document.
These Terms are a contract between you and us. By creating an account or using the Service, you accept them. If you don’t agree with something here, don’t use the Service — or write to us first at yevheniizapov@gmail.com; we’re a small team and we actually read our mail.
1. Who can use YabLab
You must be at least 16 years old to use YabLab, and legally able to enter into this agreement. We ask for your month and year of birth at sign-up and store only your age group (16–17 or 18+), never the date itself. If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 16, we will close it and delete its data.
Paid subscriptions may only be purchased by users aged 18 or older. If you are 16–17, you can use the free plan.
2. Your account
- Keep your password to yourself. Anything done under your account is on you.
- If you think someone else got into your account, tell us right away at yevheniizapov@gmail.com.
- Don’t sign up under someone else’s identity or with false information.
3. Free plan, subscription, and payment
YabLab has a free plan with usage limits and a paid subscription that raises those limits and unlocks additional features.
- Payments are handled by Paddle. Paddle.com is our merchant of record: the checkout, your card details, invoices, and taxes go through Paddle, not through our servers. Paddle’s own checkout terms apply to the transaction.
- Subscriptions renew automatically. You are billed in advance for each period, and the subscription renews until you cancel. There is no free trial — the free plan is how you try YabLab.
- Cancel whenever you like from your profile settings. You keep paid access until the end of the period you’ve already paid for; after that you drop back to the free plan. We don’t prorate the unused remainder of a period, except as described below or where the law requires it.
- Refunds. If YabLab isn’t for you, email us within 14 days of your first payment and we’ll refund it in full. This doesn’t limit any refund rights you have under the consumer laws of your country. See the Refund Policy for details.
- Price changes. If we change subscription prices, we’ll email you before your next renewal so you can decide whether to stay.
- Fair use of AI features. Translation, writing check, page adaptation, and similar features run on third-party AI models that cost real money per request. Usage quotas apply on both plans, and we may adjust them to keep the Service sustainable. If we materially reduce what a paid plan includes, the price-change notice above applies.
4. What you can’t do
Don’t:
- use the Service for anything unlawful, fraudulent, or harmful;
- upload content that infringes someone’s rights or is defamatory, hateful, or obscene;
- try to get around authentication, rate limits, usage quotas, or other security measures;
- scrape, mass-download, or systematically extract data from the Service;
- access the Service with bots or automated tools without our written permission;
- reverse-engineer the Service, except where the law explicitly allows it;
- impersonate anyone or misrepresent who you’re affiliated with.
If you break these rules, we may suspend or close your account.
5. Your content
The vocabulary, flashcards, notes, and anything else you create or import (including Anki decks) stay yours. You give us permission to host, store, transmit, display, and process that content — only as far as needed to run and improve the Service for you. We don’t claim ownership of it and we don’t use it for advertising.
You’re responsible for what you upload. Don’t import material you have no right to use.
6. Our content
The Service itself — the software, design, the YabLab name and logo, and the learning materials we author — belongs to us and is protected by copyright and other intellectual-property laws. We give you a personal, non-transferable, revocable license to use it for learning languages, which is what it’s for.
7. AI features: read this part
Translations, definitions, example sentences, grammar corrections, simplified page text, quiz questions, and tutoring suggestions in YabLab are generated by third-party language models. Language models are useful and frequently wrong, sometimes in ways that sound perfectly confident. Concretely:
- outputs may contain errors, omissions, or things that are simply made up;
- a “correction” from the writing checker can itself be incorrect — proofread anything that matters before you send it;
- nothing the Service produces is certified language instruction, and none of it is legal, medical, financial, or other professional advice;
- don’t rely on AI output for exams, official documents, or any decision with real consequences.
You decide what to do with AI-generated output, and that judgment is yours, not ours.
8. Availability
YabLab is a young product built by a small team. We work hard to keep it up, but we don’t promise uninterrupted operation, and we may change, pause, or retire parts of the Service as it evolves. Where we retire something you rely on, we’ll try to give you notice and a way to export your data. We’re not liable for losses caused by downtime or changes, except where the law says otherwise.
9. Disclaimer of warranties
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the maximum extent the law allows, we make no warranties of any kind — express, implied, or statutory — including that the Service will be error-free or secure, or that it will get you to fluency. (We hope it does. We just can’t promise it.)
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we and anyone working with us are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages, or for lost data, profits, or goodwill arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for all claims combined is capped at the greater of (a) what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim and (b) USD 50.
Nothing in this section limits liability that can’t legally be limited — for example, for gross negligence, willful misconduct, or your statutory consumer rights.
11. Ending things
You can delete your account any time from your profile settings; your data is then handled as described in the Privacy Policy. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms or if the law requires it. If we terminate a paid account without cause, we’ll refund the unused portion of your subscription.
12. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms as the product and the law change. For material changes we’ll notify you by email or in the app before they take effect. Continuing to use the Service after that means you accept the new version.
13. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of Georgia (the country), excluding its conflict-of-laws rules. Disputes go to the courts of Georgia — unless mandatory consumer-protection law in your country of residence gives you the right to bring the claim locally, in which case it does.
