Gender: by word ending
Grammar shows how words depend on one another. A correct form must express the intended person, number, gender, case, time or degree and agree with the rest of the sentence.
- Find the head
- Start with the controlling word The subject controls the verb; a noun can control its article, adjective or pronoun.
- Read the context
- Choose the intended meaning Time, quantity, identity and comparison determine which grammatical form is possible.
- Check agreement
- Match every dependent form Person, number, gender and case must remain consistent across the phrase or clause.
